Magazine cover

This week's assignment will utilize your knowledge of Photoshop to create graphics, but you will also start to learn about design. Magazine covers are a great place to see how designers balance imagery with text. They must look good, but must also inform the reader about the contents of the magazine.

This week, you will be designing a magazine cover. You may design a cover for an existing magazine, or you may create a brand new magazine just for this project. You MUST include a masthead for the magazine (the name at the top of the magazine cover), at least TWO photographs and a minimum of FOUR teasers to stories inside. Don't forget the small details like the UPC barcode and the month/year of publication!!

Take your time and come up with graphics that compliment your magazine. Be creative with the stories you will "tease" us with on the cover. Make sure the colors of your magazine cover look good. Make your font colors work with the colors in the photograph(s) you choose.

You'll find there's a lot involved when designing a magazine cover! It's more than just pretty pictures! Use tonight's class to begin gathering your images. Feel free to sketch your ideas out on paper first! Work on these during class and we will also work on them in Wednesday's class.
